Dental Cleanings & Preventive Care in Las Vegas

Dental Cleanings & Preventive Care in Las Vegas

Prevention is the key to maintain a high standard of oral health and low dental costs. The most effective prevention plan involves you and Dr. Youssef working together for a healthy, stunning smile. At home, prevention includes not only twice-daily brushing and flossing, but also a healthy diet. Yet, at-home care is only part of your prevention. Regular dental exams and cleanings are vital to preventing decay and disease. No matter how diligent you are about brushing and flossing, cavities could still develop, and they don’t always mark their presence by pain or sensitivity. Dr. Youssef will help you keep minor issues from becoming major procedures with pro-active oral care.

5-Star Dental Patient Reviews

Your cleaning visits will include the following:

Sandquist DDS uses digital x-rays, the most current dental-imaging technology. They serve the same purpose as standard x-rays, but reduce radiation exposure by 80-90%. They’re also rendered faster, and are able to be viewed immediately on a computer. Because of this, they can be easily enlarged for better viewing, or conveniently emailed. Generally, Dr. Sandquist only needs to take a full set of x-rays every three to five years, and bite-wing x-rays (top and bottom side teeth that bite together) during regularly scheduled check-ups. More x-rays may be required occasionally, depending on individual patient needs.

Early detection and treatment of oral cancer significantly increases the chance for successful treatment. The American Cancer Society reports that more than 7,000 deaths result from oral cancer out of the 30,000 annually diagnosed cases. How many of these deaths could have been avoided with an oral cancer exam and early detection? Oral cancer often doesn’t manifest with the usual signs of cancer, so without a professional screening from Dr. Sandquist, it can go undetected until it’s in an advanced stage

Regular teeth cleanings by your hygienist is a vital part of fighting off gingivitis (gum inflammation) and periodontal disease (gum disease). If you don’t thoroughly remove all the bacteria in your mouth, it will accumulate, motivating gum inflammation. If left untreated, this inflammation can sprout into gum disease. Gum disease causes the gums around your teeth to become lose and degenerate – which will eventually mobilize tooth loss.

A bright, beautiful smile begins at home. Your brushing and flossing routines play as much of a role in your dental health as does your diet and lifestyle. Frequent doses of sweets and sugary drinks, along with smoking and alcohol use can increase risk for dental issues and diseases. Cutting back on those vices, along with regular brushing and flossing is imperative to a healthy and happy smile. Dr. Sandquist can help educate you on effective home-care methods.

FAQs

How long to wait to eat after teeth cleaning?

After a regular teeth cleaning we recommend a 30 minute wait before eating, especially if a fluoride treatment is applied. If you had a deep cleaning (scaling and root planing), wait at least a few hours, and stick to soft foods to avoid gum irritation. Avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy foods for the rest of the day if your gums feel sensitive.

We do not pull teeth. During your consultation, if we see that you have teeth that need to be removed we will refer you to a trusted specialist and coordinate to ensure the restoration of your teeth.

At Sandquist Dentistry in Las Vegas, we do our best to accommodate dental emergencies. Start by calling our Las Vegas dentist office. When you call during office hours, we make every effort to see you, sometimes on the same day. If your dental emergency happens on the weekends or after office hours, don’t worry; just call the office and leave us a message. For true dental emergencies we have an emergency line that Dr. Sandquist monitors. He will return your call as soon as possible and see you at the earliest availability. For minor dental emergencies you can also request an appointment online. We do not see patients on weekends.

Full-mouth rehabilitation is a comprehensive dental treatment plan that restores the function, aesthetics, and health of the entire mouth by addressing issues with teeth, gums, and bite alignment. It often involves a combination of procedures, such as crowns, veneers, implants, and periodontal treatments, tailored to the patient’s specific needs. Start by getting a consultation with a trustworthy dentist, like Dr. Sandquist. Though full mouth rehabilitation is not always necessary, digital imaging, X-rays, and a detailed assessment of your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite allow us to make a treatment plan. Restorative work (crowns, bridges, or implants), cosmetic improvements (veneers or teeth whitening), and functional corrections (orthodontics or TMJ therapy) are all part of your personalized treatment plan. At Sandquist Dentistry in Las Vegas, we are here to get your oral health, function, and appearance back to their best.

Myofunctional therapy is a series of exercises designed to improve the strength, coordination, and function of the tongue, lips, and facial muscles. It addresses issues like tongue thrust, mouth breathing, improper swallowing, or poor oral posture, which can contribute to dental problems, sleep apnea, or jaw pain.

You might need myofunctional therapy if you experience symptoms like chronic mouth breathing, speech difficulties, teeth grinding, or an open bite, or if your dentist identifies functional habits affecting your oral health. At Sandquist Dentistry in Las Vegas, Dr. Lee-Mirzayan, DDS, is certified in myofunctional therapy and, through consultation, will help you determine whether it’s right for you.
