Root Canal Treatment in Las Vegas

Root Canal Treatment in Las Vegas

When a tooth becomes infected or severely decayed, a root canal is often required to save it. The “root canal” is the natural cavity in the center of the tooth, with a soft chamber containing pulpy tissue and the tooth’s nerve.

The nerve is not vitally important to a mature tooth’s health and function, and when it’s inflamed, it may cause discomfort.  During a root canal, the nerve and pulp are removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. This eliminates the source of discomfort and helps ensure the tooth won’t become infected again.

Dr. Sandquist works closely with another dentist office to refer root canal treatment. After your root canal, Dr Sandquist will place a crown or composite restoration to protect your tooth and bring it back to full strength.

FAQs

What is a root canal?

A root canal is a dental procedure that treats infection or damage within the pulp of a tooth. It involves removing the infected or inflamed pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the inside of the tooth, and then filling and sealing it to prevent further infection. This treatment helps save the natural tooth and eliminates pain while restoring normal function.

Fillings are for small issues, while root canals are for more serious tooth damage. A filling addresses minor tooth decay that hasn’t reached the tooth’s inner core (the pulp), while a root canal is required when decay or infection has reached the pulp, impacting the nerve and requiring its removal to save the tooth

Some alternatives to a root canal include tooth extraction, pulp capping, a pulpotomy, or a dental implant. A root canal is usually the preferred method to save your tooth and is considered the standard of care by most dentists.

We do not pull teeth. During your consultation, if we see that you have teeth that need to be removed we will refer you to a trusted specialist and coordinate to ensure the restoration of your teeth.
